Things to do in Kerala

It’s not for nothing that Kerala is known as ‘God’s Own Country’. This southern state in India is blessed with around 600km of beautiful coastline and numerous scenic beaches. The verdant greenery of the state is sandwiched between the blue-greens of the Arabian Sea on one side and the spectacular Western Ghats on the other side.

To soak in the rich natural beauty, history and culture of Kerala, a weekend getaway will simply not do! Some of the amazing things you mustn’t miss out on include some of the following:

A CRUISE THROUGH THE BACKWATERS

Take a trip to the historical Kollam city which is around 70 km away from Trivandrum airport. Check into The Leela Ashtamudi, A Raviz Hotel, nestled on the banks of the magnificent Ashtamudi Lake and go for a romantic cruise through its famous backwaters in luxurious houseboats that are fully-equipped and air-conditioned. A trip through the serene water channels with its dense greenery, dappled sunlight and the sound of birdsong for a company provides for an unforgettable experience. You will be served meals with delicious freshly-caught lake fish. Don’t forget to sample fresh tender coconut water too while you are here.

GOLDEN BEACHES

There are numerous magnificent beaches scattered along Kerala’s coastline, each with its own uniqueness. While the Cliffside Varkala beach is famous for its pristine nature, the Kovalam beach in Trivandrum is a favourite with the tourists and full of life, offering numerous options for water sports too. A stay at the The Leela Kovalam, A Raviz Hotel, in Kovalam, Trivandrum completes the great vacation experience as you enjoy the numerous beaches located here.

ROLLING GREEN HILL STATIONS

The verdant hills are another major attraction, offering miles of neatly manicured tea gardens on never-ending rolling hills that are a balm to city-bred eyes. The lovely cool, crispy weather only adds to the great experience here.  Do remember to sample the fresh tea too as you visit stunning hill locations such as Munnar, Wayanad, Vagamon, etc, hidden within the Western Ghats. These hill stations are a hiker’s paradise too!

TREKKING THROUGH PERIYAR JUNGLE

The Periyar jungle is resplendent with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Located in the heart of the Western Ghats, it is completely removed from the beach-life and is great for nature lovers. Along with amazing plants and trees, you get to see a variety of butterflies, birds, monkeys, elephants, the giant squirrel, and if you are lucky, a bison too!

However, this isn’t all as there is lots more to do in Kerala, aside from these options.
