With ‘Inclusivity’, as one of our Values, we draw inspiration from Mother Nature to nurture and protect the environment and all other stakeholders. We recognize that true luxury is inextricably linked to preserving and enriching the natural splendour that surrounds our iconic properties.
We incorporate environmental considerations within the business strategy and decision-making process.
Recognizing our role in addressing climate change, we are decarbonizing our operations by investing in renewable energy solutions, enhancing water efficiencies and investing in circular economy.
Our energy management approach is rooted in continuous monitoring and data-driven decision-making. Through an integrated Building Management System Environmental Data Management Tool.
Our total Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 66,450 MTCO2e and our GHG intensity was approximately 34.2 MTCO2e/10 million rupees of turnover across all properties for CY 2023.
We set a new industry benchmark by being the first property in India to introduce eco-friendly boats, inspiring others to follow suit.
We prioritize adopting cutting-edge technology solutions and process transformation to continually improve energy efficiency across our operations.
HeatingInstalling heat pumps and solar hot water systems helps us optimize energy consumption in indoor heating. These enhancements have resulted in a reduction of around 98 KL of diesel per year across The Leela Palace Udaipur and The Leela Palace Chennai.
LightingLED lighting and intelligent lighting control systems such as dimming systems help optimize lux levels at our properties while creating warm, inviting ambiences tailored to guest preferences.
CoolingWe have upgraded to efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure optimal efficiency. Our equipment have higher Coefficient of Performance and Energy Efficiency Ratio ratings. Additionally, we have installed auto tube cleaning systems and variable speed drivers on chillers, cooling tower fans, and pumps to regulate motor speed and reduce energy consumption during partial load conditions.
Recognizing the growing water stress pan India and the need for water conservation, we monitor and embrace responsible measures to reduce consumption across our properties.
We have implemented advanced water-saving technologies throughout our properties, such as low-flow fixtures, aerators in guest rooms and public areas.
An integrated network of smart sensors and real time monitoring systems empower us to track and analyse water consumption patterns to identify potential leaks, address inefficiencies, implement targeted measures and plug any gaps promptly.
We recognize that every material has an intrinsic value not only in its use-phase but also at the end-of-life. The waste generated is categorized into primarily dry waste, wet waste, e-waste, battery waste and hazardous waste components to ensure proper handling and treatment. We regularly monitor and maintain transparent records of our waste management practices, ensuring compliance with the Central/State Pollution Control Board requirements.
75% of our properties have Organic Waste Composters. In line with our goal of achieving zero waste to landfill, we have initiated comprehensive recycling programs with third-party recyclers. In CY 2023, approximately 98.9% of waste generated in all properties was diverted from landfill.
As part of our commitment to a circular economy, we have partnered with Kanpur Flowercycling Private Limited’, an organization that repurposes used flowers, to transform florals adorning our properties into exquisite organic incense sticks and cones infused with our signature fragrance, Tishya by The Leela.
Additionally, we have partnered with a not-for-profit organization, ‘Phool’ to upcycle 2.3 MT of floral waste, contributing to the circular economy.
Under our wellness program at Aujasya by The Leela, our in-house water bottling process reduced the usage of an estimated 33.8 MTof plastic in CY 2023.
